Get On Board Project
Boardwalk and Trial Improvement
To protect and preserve the boardwalks and trails for future generations the Friends of the Sanctuary launched the "Get on Board" boardwalk rehabilitation project a few years ago. The goal was to replace existing boardwalks to allow for greater access to the trail system in the Sanctuary.
We have successfully replaced the 2 boardwalks on the Redwing trail with the help of our corporate community and the SDG community at large.
However, our efforts to improve the trails system continue. Various extreme weather events have damaged one of the boardwalks and washed out some of the trails. We endeavour to recover from this and continue to improve other trails.
One of our goals is to make some trails more accessible to all SDG citizens regardless of ability. This is just a part of our effort toward the revitalization of the Sanctuary to further increase the popularity of this precious gem on the St. Lawrence River.
How your Partnership will make a difference
By partnering with The Friends of the Sanctuary in our "Get on Board" project you will be investing in the future of a highly valuable natural habitat that welcomesthousands of visitors a year. The Sanctuary is a setting where visitors are able to experience nature, gain the benefits of being in a natural environment and have great family experiences. The Saint Lawrence Parks Commission and The Friends of the Sanctuary host many educational tours and activities at the Sanctuary for countless school children and interested visitors 12 months of the year. We are continually seeking funding partnerships and help for this ongoing project and we sincerely hope you will give us your support.
The Friends of the Sanctuary is a registered charitable organisation. It is run by dedicated volunteers from all over the SDG. Our goal is to give visitors the best outdoor experience possible.
Any donations to this project will help us attain our goals. Donations greater than $500.00 will receive a special acknowledgement from The Friends of the Sanctuary.
