Spirit Walk - 2008 - Some of our local spirits
1. Strongest Man in the World: Strong Man George Jowett was born in England in 1892. Through his life he won many world titles including the title of the Strongest Man. He settled along the St. Lawrence River at Morrisburg in 1940 and died in 1969 at the age of 77. A mural of George can be seen on the wall of Riverside Heights Community Centre.

2. Pirate Treasure: Lord Amherst's war chest of 1760 was supposedly buried on the bank of the St. Lawrence River before attempting the Long Sault, one of the most dangerous rapids on the river. When a safe boat passage was found they would come back for the chest. Unfortunately, the rapids claimed many boats and men on that trip including the men on that trip, including the men who knew where the chest was buried. This was the pirate treasure legend that was being told back in 1842.

3. Austin "Oz" Fetterly - Town Constable: Fetterly was both the blacksmith and the constable in the lost village of Aultsville before and during the 1920s. He was a strong man and could easily shoe a heavy draught horse. He lived dangerously and spent many of his working years combatting  the smuggling and bootlegging operations that took place up and down the St. Lawrence River.
